Black & White Spider Awards Honors Photographer Steve Zmak from the United States LOS ANGELES — Photographer Steve Zmak of the United States was nominated twice in the Professional Nature Category, and once in the Professional Abstract Category where Zmak received an Honorable Mention at the 9th Annual Black and White Spider Awards on October 18, 2014. Black & White Spider Awards is the leading international award honoring excellence in black and white photography. This celebrated event shines a spotlight on the best professional and amateur photographers worldwide and honors the finest images with the highest achievements in black and white photography. The awards international Jury included captains of the industry from The Royal Photographic Society, FoMu Fotomuseum, Aeroplastics Contemporary, Torch Gallery, Stockholm City Museum to Fratelli Alinari in Florence who honored Spider Fellows with 298 coveted title awards and 957 nominees in 14 categories. The 9th Annual Awards received 8,508 entries from 73 countries representing black and white photography at its finest. Center for Photographic Art – 8X10 Exhibit October 18 – November 8, 2014; Opening Reception Saturday, October 18, 2014, 4-6 p.m. Sunset Center, Room #5, San Carlos Street at Ninth Avenue, Carmel, Calif. A fundraising tradition at the Center for Photographic Art. This 3-week event combines a high quality exhibition of invited photographers’ “small works” (smaller than 8X10”) with the chance for visitors to support CPA’s educational and exhibition programs. Photo Accepted in the California State Parks 2015 Calendar “Twilight Flight” is the photo for October 2014 in the soon-to-be-released 2015 15-month Calendar. The photo was taken last year at Salinas River State Beach. The calendars will be available for sale soon from CalParks.org.

This exhibition, of approximately 50 works, represents the winning images in this year’s Juried Exhibition competition, judged by Juror Diana L. Daniels, Curator of Contemporary Art, Crocker Art Museum in Sacramento, Calif. Ms. Daniels had the challenging task of selecting winning images from over 1,000 photographs submitted by photographers locally, nationally and internationally.
